WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT THE WOMEN'S BILL OF RIGHTS More than 250 people have signed the Women’s Bill of Rights. Why I believe in the Women’s Bill of Rights: As a professional working executive for over 28 years, I continue to see areas where women are not treated as equals in the workplace. Although tremendous advancements have been made, the "old boy" network still exists at the top. As a teacher of 13 year olds, I am aware of how much work must be done to create an environment for girls that builds their self-confidence and sense of worth. As the sole provider for my family it is imperative to ensure equality in the work force. In my line of work, a man consistently makes 25% more than I do. Why? I serve the great state of Washington as one of 5 State Human Rights Commissioners responsible for enforcing the state anti-discrimination law RCW 49.60. I believe it is a sad time when we still must pass laws for womens rights - its a no brainer! It is claiming the rights guaranteed to all citizens of this USA. It is removing the barriers to full realization of the rights and responsibilities to which every human being is entitled. Finally, I want these rights for my grandaughter's generation. It's about time! What ever happened to our enthusiasm for the ERA? I'm so glad to see this and will share it with my friends. Great work on behalf of the Women you serve so well! Our voice needs ongoing positive power. Anything we can do to improve human rights, healthcare and education here in the US and around the world, we must do. Should have been this way when the U.S. Constitution was written and signed.
Because it is time. I want these rights for my daughter and grandaughter. As a professional working executive for over 28 years, I continue to see areas where women are not treated as equals in the workplace. Although tremendous advancements have been made, the "old boy" network still exists at the top. Because there should be no gap, no difference in treatment, and ideally, no need for a Bill of Rights. I applaud the NWLC's efforts on behalf of all women but particularly on behalf of women in less urban areas of the NW. Thank you. It offers me a sense of self! All human beings deserves such guarantees. Unfortunately, historical bias against women remains, revealing the continuing need for extra emphasis on women's rights in order to balance the scales of respect for everyone. Because I believe in equal treatment under the law and because I'm a woman. Because true equal rights for women is still not a complete reality. Some of our rights have already been eroded and some have yet to be achieved. Having known and been inspired by Cynthia Gillespie, I'm very glad to help her work continue to move forward - and it's my work too! The time for silence is done, we must stand up for ourselves, and then be allowed to be heard. It is time to frame our issues as women as human rights, not privileges that can be given and taken. These rights apply to all women. Thanks for making them a reality! I hear stories every day that confirm the need for the bill of rights and for the Northwest Womens Law Center to pursue them! I teach at a technical college and I see first-hand women attempting to better themselves in order to escape a situation they are in or built a life anew after having their marriages and families destroyed. These rights are essential. I want those in power to recognize that they need to help us fight for these rights. I want disenfranchised women to know they are supported as they strive for more. I want to assert my own rights. It is the intent of the Creator of us all. It's amazing that in 2008, in the US, we still have to do this, but here we are. Thank you for doing this! The CT Women's Education and Legal Fund is with you 100%! The right to choose, and equal salaries for equal work. This is good for women, for families, for everyone. The Women's Bill of Rights is important to me to keep up the hard work of all of the women before me. We still have to say it loud, say it proud! The wonderful thing about the Women's Bill of Rights is the declaration for all women of the same rights that all human beings should have all over the world. There is no reason why the rights deserved by all people should in any way be abridged. Until equality for all is achieved, we must continually educate the next generation, as well as re-energize and recommit ourselves to continue to fight the good fight. We worked hard for and won an Equal Rights Amendment in Washington State in 1972, but our country still doesn't have one. In 2008 a Women's Bill of Rights should not be needed but is. Let us focus and work on both issues for all women now. Women are so used to being someone’s daughter, wife or mother that they forget that they are women-individuals who have a voice of their own and rights of their own. The Women's Bill of Rights allows women to find their voice. Women are still considered inferior to men in all countries. The United States needs to set an example for the rest of the world. Women have been treated unfairly in not earning equal pay, being told they don't have control over their own bodies and whether or not to bear children for too long. It is high time that the US set am exanple for the rest of the world. Women's rights are human rights and yet we have to give everything we have for justice. The Northwest Women's Law Center helps make it a reality. Women's rights are human rights! Sign the Women’s Bill of Rights and let us know why YOU believe in them.
