• Successfully fighting for legislation that created a domestic partner registry for same-sex couples and senior unmarried heterosexual couples and granted critical legal rights and for such partners.

• Advocating for legislation that provided to registered domestic partners additional legal rights and responsibilities automatically enjoyed by married couples.

• Urging the Washington legislature to amend its Law Against Discrimination to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation, including in employment, in the use of public accommodation and in real estate, credit and insurance transactions.

• Winning the first Washington State case that recognized a non-biological mother’s right to parent her child.  In re Parentage of L.B.

• Striking down Montana’s “sexual deviant conduct law” that criminalized intimate sexual relationships between consenting adults of the same sex.  Gryczan v. Montana.

• Successfully arguing that same-sex couples in Washington be accorded the same property division rules as other couples living in marital-like relationships: Vasquez v. Hawthorne & Gormley v. Roberts.

• Forcing the US military to reinstate Colonel Grethe Cammermeyer, who was removed from her position because of her sexual orientation.  Cammermeyer v. Perry.

• Successfully urging the Montana Supreme Court to require the Montana University System to provide domestic partnership benefits to same-sex couples.  Snetsinger v. Montana University System.
