HEALTH & REPRODUCTIVE FREEDOM

Women’s health – particularly the ability to bear children – has long been subject to political debate and laws that harm women.  For some women, the right to be a mother is threatened by coercive laws that try to limit the number of children a woman on welfare can have, or even force her to undergo sterilization.  For others, particularly young women, the right to choose not to have a child is threatened by laws that require parental consent to healthcare, including contraception and abortion.  The Law Center has been a regional leader for almost thirty years in advancing and protecting women’s rights to healthcare.

Current Action

  • Stopping pharmacists from imposing their personal beliefs on patients.

  • Ensuring that emergency rooms in Washington State give emergency contraception to rape victims.

  • Arming women with knowledge about the deceptive tactics of some “crisis pregnancy centers.”

  • Working to ensure that all patients receive complete and accurate medical information so they can make informed health care decisions.

  • Leading the Northwest Reproductive Freedom Network, a regional network of activists for reproductive health and justice.
